Infertility treatment abroad

Infertility is defined by the World Health Organization as the failure to achieve pregnancy after one year of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. The estimation is that 10-15% of reproductive-aged couples are affected by this medical condition.

Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) helps couples to conceive with medical assistance. Many couples decide to have this treatment abroad, for diverse reasons such as waiting times, costs, effectiveness or privacy.

Infertility is a problem that involves both partners. Several factors can cause infertility, some of them are specific to women or men. Others can affect both genders like: environmental conditions, consuming tobacco or drugs, excessive exercise, inadequate diet that leads to extreme weight loss or gain, and advanced age.

Medical Port team up with Hospital Lusíadas to offer infertility treatment alternatives that start with an accurate diagnosis of the couple conceiving condition.

These are the treatments available:

  • Ovulation monitoring;
  • Intrauterine insemination;
  • In Vitro fertilization;
  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI);
  • Surgical sperm retrieval for ICSI;
  • Transference of frozen embryo as a result of in vitro fertilization.

You’ll be able to perform infertility tests, full couples’ studies, perform medical-surgical therapies and assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments in the same place, even if there’s the need to see physicians from other specialties, namely andrology, urology or psychology, amongst others. According to the ART team in Hospital dos Lusíadas, one out of three couples get pregnant after an ART treatment, and one out four couples that uses in vitro fertilization fulfills their dream of becoming parents.

Medical Port launches its services in Mozambique

With the goal to better serve the healthcare needs of Mozambicans, Medical Port partnered with a local representative to promote its healthcare services and help Mozambicans to have access to medical treatment in Portugal.

The launching event took place on February 25 at Hotel Southern Sun, in Maputo. Guests were Mozambicans and Portuguese living in Mozambique. Attendees had the chance to get to know Medical Port’s services and also learned innovative non-invasive assessment techniques with a presentation from a cardiovascular physician.

Due to lack of options of healthcare in their country, Mozambicans usually travel for medical care to nearby countries. For those who seek to travel to Portugal for business or leisure, they can also book medical treatments through Medical Port’s partner network of private hospitals and clinics. With a long history of friendship between Portugal and Mozambique, the common language makes Portugal an interesting option for Mozambicans.

All Medical Port services are customized to the specific needs of the clients. Some of the areas are diagnosis and check-up, exams and consultations, plastic surgery and physical rehabilitation. These offerings are designed to provide a complete, rigorous and effective solution for a health concern that may not be covered in the client’s home country. Besides medical care, Medical Port plans and organizes the trip and the stay. Leisure activities can be planned according to the medical treatment the client will receive. Before and after the trip, the client can have remote consultations with the selected physicians to clarify concerns and for follow-up.
